A Nottinghamshire councillor has been charged with raping a boy under the age of 16 three times.

Jason Zadrozny, who represents Sutton-in-Ashfield North on the county council, has also been charged with four counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 16, all of which are alleged to have taken place between September 2, 2003, and April 30, 2004.

The 35-year-old, of Sutton Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, has then been charged with three further sex offences with a boy aged 13 to 15 between May 1, 2004 and September 30, 2006.

He has been bailed to appear at Mansfield Magistrates court on 30 March 2016.

Zadrozny ran for his seat as an independent in May 2015. Previously, he was a member for the Liberal Democrats and held his seat from 2007.

After winning it back at the last general election, he then formed and became the leader of the Ashfield Independent Group on the council, alongside four other local members.

He is a member of the local joint resolutions committee and the policy committee, but previously sat on a number of council groups, including adult social care, planning and licensing, and the economic development committee.

Anthony May, chief executive of Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "We are aware that a Nottinghamshire County Councillor has been charged with a number of sexual offences. There is no action that the County Council can take at this stage as this is a matter for the Courts."
