The front counter at Nottingham's current Central Police Station closes at the end of the week after more than 70 years.

The station, in North Church Street, will shut its doors for the last time this Friday.

The front counter at the new Central Police Station at Byron House, in Maid Marian Way, will open on Monday.

Nottinghamshire Police says its teams will be moving to their new city base over the next fortnight from where they will work more closely with colleagues in Nottingham City Council's Community Protection.

A force spokesman said: "This will aid us in our ambition to improve the service we offer to our local communities and help us keep Nottinghamshire safe, while also reducing our costs."

Around £120,000 in running costs will be saved per year, and it would have cost £5m to bring the former police buildings up to scratch, as well as £1m to improve the Exchange Buildings.

The full front counter service will be available from Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm.

For non-urgent issues you can call police on 101 or in an emergency always call 999.
