A body has been found in Gedling Country Park.

An area of the park near the Spring Lane entrance in Lambley has been cordoned off by police.

Officers and paramedics were called at 9.20am this morning.

The death is being treated as unexplained as an investigation continues into its discovery.

Members of the park conservation group Friends of Gedling Country Park have been helping police with their enquiries.

Terry Lock, from the friends group, said: "I don't know how long the body's been there. We closed the park at half past 5 last night so people couldn't get in after that point and I think by about sixish everyone was off site.

"It's a very tragic thing and we just don't know anything more about it at the moment."

A police spokesman said: "Nottinghamshire Police have cordoned off an area of Gedling Country Park following the discovery of a body at around 9.20am today

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and an investigation to identify the body and establish the circumstances surrounding the discovery has begun.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 229 of the 27 February."
