A manhunt is under way for a bank robber who threatened staff and fled with cash.

The man walked into the TSB branch, in Victoria Road, Netherfield and demanded money from the terrified female cashiers.

It is the second time the bank has been held up in less than two years.

Detectives now want to trace a bearded Asian man who fled the scene.

A spokesman for TSB said: "Fortunately no one was harmed. The police were alerted quickly and arrived at the branch straight away.

"We thank our partners for their professionalism and the branch is open as usual.

"We also want to thank the police for their help and will be working closely with them as the investigation continues."

Police have released an image of the suspect (pictured) in a bid to trace the man, described as about 5ft 7in and in his 40s.

He is believed to have a grey beard and was wearing a blue woolly hat, grey jacket and a silver necklace during the robbery, which happened at about 3.45pm on Monday.

The same branch of TSB was targeted by a robber in August 2014.

On that occasion, cash was handed over after a man gave staff a note saying he had a bomb.

Balal Jahangir, of Barnston Road, Sneinton, was jailed for nine years in December 2014 at Nottingham Crown Court.

Nottingham's senior judge Michael Stokes told Jahangir that his actions had left cashiers "traumatised".

Yesterday, customers called for more support for bank staff.

Joe Shaw, 71, of Gedling village, said: "I've been banking here for 40 years and suddenly it gets robbed twice in a couple of years.

"I'm glad no one got hurt, but I think they should have security guards at banks now."

Nigel Ferris, manager of local shop Motabits, described the scene following Monday's incident.

He said: "Three police cars arrived and they went inside and shut the doors.

"They came round asking a few questions and said they were looking for a man in a grey hoodie.

"We knew it was serious when the CID turned up. It happened so quickly that by the time I knew what was going on he'd gone."

If you recognise the man pictured or have any information about the robbery, call police on 101, quoting incident 572 of February 1.
