A sniffer dog singled out a man on a city street and police also found a knife when they searched him, Nottingham Magistrates heard yesterday .
Daniel Delmer, of Gordon Road, Thorneywood admitted having cannabis and amphetamine on St James Street on December 12. He also pleaded guilty to having a knife in public.
A six-week prison term, suspended for a year, was imposed on the 25-year-old.
Presiding magistrate Andrew Jackson told him: "Don't commit a further offence. With a suspended sentence hanging over your head, you will go to prison. I know you will not do the knife offence again - you will not be so stupid. But going out for drugs and you are at risk."
Louise Winning, mitigating, said: "He accepts he should not have been carrying the knife."
