Neighbours have been left shocked after armed police officers, supported by paramedics, raided a house in Beeston Rylands.

Residents say they saw armed officers arrive at an address in East Crescent at around 1.30pm on Thursday afternoon.

According to witnesses, the property was raided at around 4.30pm.

John Upton, 69, of nearby Beech Avenue, was walking his dog when he saw what was happening.

He added: "When I came around at first there was an unmarked 4x4 and patrol car with about four people in it – round about four-ish all hell let loose.

"There were about five ambulances with about 20 police officers and they raided one of the houses but I never saw anyone come out of it.

"When I spoke to the police officer they said they couldn't tell me about it."

A police spokesman said: "We were called to the address earlier this afternoon and our officers remain at the scene.

"We can reassure people that no risk to the public has been identified, however our officers are likely to remain at the scene for some time whilst they continue to conduct their enquiries."
