Three men have been arrested in connection with an alleged stabbing in Eastwood.

The trio, aged 25, 29 and 31, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

A 28-year-old man remained in hospital on Wednesday, after police previously said he was in a "serious condition" after the attack, described by police as a "serious assault".

Officers were called to Ryemere Close on Monday at about 7.45pm after receiving reports that a man had been stabbed.

Neighbours told the Nottingham Post this week that they felt scared and unsafe in their own homes after the attack, which came just 24 hours after a gunshot was heard a mile away.

They described how police vehicles and ambulances descended on the area shortly after the reported assault, with a man wearing bandages on his head helped by paramedics.

Officers spent most of Tuesday searching through bins, gardens and drains in the area.

Full-time mum-of-two Jessica Naylor, of Knapp Avenue, said she was "shocked" by the assault.

The 23-year-old added: "It's really worrying because it's right outside your door.

"This is the first time anything like this has happened as far as I'm aware and it has affected the community and our spirit.

"From what I've heard the police were here really quickly and there were a lot of them around."

The day before the stabbing, armed officers were called to Comet Drive after residents heard a "deafening gunshot".

No weapons were found and no one was injured, but a downstairs window was shattered by the blast.

Keith Longdon, Nottinghamshire County Council member for Eastwood and town councillor, said: "Serious incidents like this are very disturbing.

"There was a case in 2011 when someone had seven shots through her bedroom window in South Street but I can't recall having two such big incidents happening in a short space of time like this.

"In some ways they are isolated cases but nevertheless the problem is there so let's hope it doesn't happen again.

"There are people who dare not come out of their own house. It's bound to affect people, particularly the elderly."

Councillor Longdon, who is also chairman of Eastwood Neighbourhood Watch, added: "Obviously it's a big worry for us because the police resources have been cut so we now have three fewer PCSOs, which we can ill-afford.

"I know the police have restraints, the same as anyone else, but we need their presence in the town.

"It's more important now than ever to get people coming along to Neighbourhood Watch and helping out because the police need our help."

Nottinghamshire Police is still appealing for witnesses, while a spokesman said on Wednesday that officers' enquiries were still "ongoing" into whether the incidents were connected.

In a statement, the force said: "If you have information, call police on 101, quoting incident number 778 of February 15.

"Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
